How to Prepare for Your Bridal Hair Trial

Planning ahead for your bridal hair trial is the key to achieving a seamless, stress-free wedding day look. A little preparation goes a long way in making your appointment productive, efficient, and truly enjoyable.

Be prepared

Your stylist will give you some tips.. follow them carefully.

Come with Clean, Dry Hair

First and foremost, arrive with clean, completely dry hair. I don’t have time during your trial for a full blowout, and your style won’t hold properly if your hair is damp. For best results, wash your hair with two shampoos and apply conditioner only to the ends—either the night before or early the morning of your appointment.

If you’re planning to wear extensions, they should also be clean, fully dry, and properly prepped. Extensions need to be color-matched and professionally trimmed to blend seamlessly with your natural hair. Taking them straight out of the package and expecting a perfect match will often lead to disappointing results.

Choose Your Direction: Up, Half-Up, or Boho

Before your trial, it’s important to decide on the overall direction of your hairstyle. Do you envision your hair up, half-up, or down? Are you drawn to something sleek and polished, or more soft and boho-chic?

During your trial, I focus on one style only. If you decide to abandon that look midway and switch to something completely different—like going from a structured updo to a relaxed half-up style—you may need to book an additional trial. Having clarity going in ensures we can fully refine and perfect your chosen look.

Bring Clear Inspiration Photos

Inspiration is helpful, but clarity is everything. Bring up to three photos and be ready to explain exactly what you love about each one. Is it the softness of the curls? The volume at the crown? The face-framing pieces?

The more specific you can be, the easier it is for me to translate your vision into a style that works beautifully with your hair type, features, and overall bridal look.

Communicate Ahead of Time

It’s always a good idea to connect with me before your trial. Sharing details about your hair texture, density, length, and any concerns allows me to prepare properly and tailor everything to you.

As a professional bridal stylist, I come equipped with all the tools and products needed—you don’t need to worry about that. Preparation on your end is what makes the biggest difference.

Plan Your Time Accordingly

Your hair trial will take approximately 2–3 hours, and your makeup trial will require a similar amount of time. This is intentional—it allows us to fine-tune every detail so everything runs smoothly on your wedding day.

Rushing through a trial defeats the purpose. This is your time to collaborate, refine, and feel completely confident in your final look.

Final Thoughts

Your bridal hair trial is more than just a preview—it’s a crucial step in ensuring your wedding day runs effortlessly. Arriving prepared, having a clear vision, and trusting the process allows me to create a look that feels like the best version of you.
